Murdering a dream

How will you murder a dream,
That blossomed inside your heart,
When its time has come.

Will you push it off peaks of hope,
Down into the rock bed of reality,
And watch it splinter and scatter.

Will you throw it into the flames,
That scepter wielding fathers feed,
As they warm themselves and make their laws.

Will you smother it with tales of despair,
Of oceans to cross, of sky dwelling creatures,
That it dies away before its tender wings first flutter.

Will you dope it with slothfulness and apathy ?
When it longed to ride against the sun,
You procrastinated amidst the fumes.

Will you poison it with lust and greed,
In its endeavour so rabid, it strays and falls,
And rots away in forbidden lands.

Will you drown it in drink and in dance,
Among the familiar faces that toasted your fortune,
It screamed and you played deaf.

Or will you tell it of a greater dream of the heavens,
One that is thrown in arid lands and thirst for water to sprout.
It will cheerfully bleed to its blissful end,
And moist the soil for the heavens dream.
