On being eaten by the dragons

p0311
Dragons have come to eat me,
Since the days I remember.
On moonless nights they alight,
Folding the wings, flicking the fire tongue,
Silent as death.

Nonchalant they start feeding,
A meal in leisure, gobbling chunks,
Squeezing blood, roasting flesh,
With that fire they breathe.

Oblivious to my screams and protests,
Frantic kicks and angry tears.
Then Realization dawns,
It only hurts more.

Just before the death throws its black veil,
They abandon me with a flicker of life left.
To heal, to replenish and regenerate,
Yet again.
They could always return,
Another night.

Now, As I sit whispering with the winds,
I realize,
It was the rotten flesh they gorged on.
It was the black blood they sucked.
It was the dead desires they scorched.

It was thine ruthless mercy,
To save me from death.
